These is a pair of my Isla Marajo Rainbow Boas, Epicrates cenchria barbouri. The female is the larger darker animal laying on her side. She has just recently been acting gravid.

...nice looking snakes...kinda Peruviany..big scales, pronounced markings, and striking. If she wasn't so even keeled, I'd bet on her being gravid. Is that a recent photo? I think I've seen it before, but it may have been another type of snake altogether. It's probably the posturing.
Linda,
...New photo today. I think I have posted similar PICs of them. They are very secretive. They seem to be even less active than Brazilians and Peruvians. Most of the time I only see them when I am cleaning cages and pull a flower pot off of them like in the PIC. I have another female that is about the same size as the male in the PIC. The big female in the PIC is very stout.

I would love to have one or two of those. You don't ship to Sweden do you Jeff...? Do they get bigger/longer than BRB's ? By the way, I don't seem to find Marajo Island on any map... Where the h*ll is it ?

Mattias,
....I do not ship outside the USA. I would like to but the paperwork is overwhelming. I would have to get these snakes to produce some babies first anyway. As far as I know there have been no US captive births of barbouri for a couple years. My trio of them will turn five years old this year and hopefully will make babies. Isla Marajo is the very big island at the south side of the mouth of the Amazon River. It is dissected by dozens of waterways and is likely one of the most humid places on earth.

D*mn, didn't realize they were THAT uncommon, even in the States... They will remain a dream yet to come true for a few years more I guess. But Isla Marajo sounds like a place to spend next year's vacation... Best of luck to you in your Barbouri breeding projekt Jeff !
