Can a Red Headed Agama be kept with a Male Collard??

ambull Jul 07, 2003 10:53 AM

I'm new to Collard Lizards and since I hear Adult Males can be quite aggressive I was wondering if a Collard Male would view an African Red Headed Agama as competition or whether he would be ignored and left alone... They look very similar in size and shape in my opinion... Thanks in Advance for any advise...

keep collards with salads, collared lizards with collared lizards, agamas with agamas, and so on. If space permits, I would keep some different species together...For example, I do have a juvenile chuckwalla with some of my collareds, as well as a decent sized yarrow spiny lizard. All of these lizards actually inhabit the same type of terrain/desert/continent.

If you currently have a red headed agama, I'd love to see pics. I've thought about getting some of those someday...a breeding trio would be cool. I thought they had a bit higher heat requirments too.

I love the Red Hatted Agamas, they run Linux. Please post 'em (pix) if you got 'em!

:0) I don't have either yet... I have this big ol' empty Iguana enclosure that is just begging for lizards and I was trying to decide between RH Agamas or Collards and then came up with the bright idea of keeping both in the same cage since their requirements are similar... Hence my question on this post.

We all have collareds, I want to see some red headed agamas LOL...

Just kidding...collareds are great pets.

..one of the coolest lizards that ever breathed air, but last time I looked, there was this little problem of actually keeping them alive....
I needed one of those ages ago, but told myself to wait until there were more captive breds. Anyone having any luck?

are apparently not an easy lizard, to keep in captivity, their needs have been modified abit by Jim Dix and kept some what the same as uromastyx, with good results, I would love to get a couple, just gorgeous color on these babies ! One big flaw or drawback for me is they do not like to be handled at all, they are very skiddish and are quite fast, also run bipedally, they have to be housed with all sides covered except for the front, because they will continually run into the sides. This is not a big plus, I like to interact with my lizards, I would have to anyway, LOL they would have to like me OR ELSE I have been doing alot of reading about them because I'm pondering, heheheh !!! Also there are subspecies, a giant, 21 inches and then some smaller, there also is a species that is I can't spell it but means all female like some of the (whiptails) Poly something ! Cool critters for dang sure. :0) This is what I spend my extra time doing reading about lizards LMAO !!! Eve

...whiptail a bit, sort of like a cross between those and the collareds, with that awesome rainbow side! I had no idea there were
also some that reproduced by parthenogenesis (LIKE some Cnemidophorus), too cool. I first bumped into them when looking at Uro breeders me-own-self.

I had one as a kid, and it died! I think it lived long enough for me to see if refuse all food, run bipedal, and wither away to nothing. This was before there were books, and the internet.

It looked nothing like the ones on the Uro breeder site...I came across them there too I think they look more like a glorified desert iguana...

On the glorified desert iggy, yeah, they have a much more classy look about them more dignified in the way they hold themselves, very awesome lizards, Nice chat guys LOL Eve
