panther's tail

bmelv24 Feb 14, 2005 04:40 PM

This is my 8 mo. old panther cham. I am a little worried about his tail. His colors are starting to really come in, but his tail is a lot whiter than the rest of his body. Is this something I should worry about or will his tail start to show more color with age?

first i'd like to point out you have a very beutiful cham there =-) Ask for your question, is it a white shed? Or just white with no flakey skin or anything?

thanks, he is from the Kammer's Glorfindel. His tailisn't completely white, just a lot whiter than his body, and no it sn't just a shed. Is there any way that when he has shed his tail just retained it?

I've heard of an unfinished shed. The shed constricts whatever part it didn't shed and the part dies. The white tail could just be a production of cross-breeding? I have seen Boa's that have the original red-gold black look with alot of white. I'm not sure. I dunno if it's urgent enough to get to a vet or not. If you have the time and money I would just go in for a quick check-up. Just in case.

My 6 month old Panther has a similar thing happening. The tail sometimes looks a lot whiter than his body. I thought it could be a thermal burn but the skin looks OK and no scabbing has shown. I asked the vet while at a check up and he said it looked fine. He told me it's probably just the cham growing and different colors coming in. I'm not sure about incomplete sheds though.

I am guessing that everything is normal. It doesn't look like he has old skin on the tail, as i can still see bars in his tail. I just wondered about it being that much of a color difference.
