Striped Cali King breeders, please, come in....

HerperHelmz Feb 14, 2005 05:24 PM

Ok,

I have a yearling female coming my way on a trade, she is albino full striped, no breaks in the stripe until the tail. I also have an 04 hatchling male on the way, he's normal, full striped until the tail. I know they won't be breeding until 2007 at the earliest, but market-wise, would it be smarter to sell normal stripes, or the albino stripes? I think both look awesome, but I am looking to see what others think about it, both reptile dealers and reptile buyers.

Both - because people nowadays are somewhat unpredictable as buyers. Sorry, I wasn't much help.
But my personal opinion: I like the high contrast Black & Whites the best. (I have one of each at the house albino & normal).

Why Not Sell both... now-a-days cali kings both albino and normal go for just about the price... it'll be nice to see more stripes!

That would be the smart thing to do, but with the way my paychecks are coming around these days, affording that seems unlikely lol. I could easily sell normal, nice looking stripers, which are het for amel, and have people buy them right? I happen to like the looks of the albino stripers as well, and think they make better "display" animals than the normals. I'm not sure if other people would think the same way, as alot of people say, screw the color morphs I only keep the naturals.

I'll probably end up producing both though lol.

I am assuming you guys breed stripe californias...I have a normal striped king, yearling, and there is a show coming up and i want to buy a albino reverse stripe or albino stripe to breed her/him to...how do i know what sex i have, and how complicated of an ordeal would i be getting myself into? I breed crested geckos now, but want to switch to snakes and start with kings. Any info or websites you guys recomend would be great! thanks...-Joe

In your signature, you have your striper classified as a female. If you are referring to a striper you may buy, I'd say ask the breeders/dealers for a male, most will have snakes sexed and their sex will be often times be on the label. If not, I'm sure somebody there could sex nice looking snakes for you if you are interested.

Also, breeding snakes is very simple, you'll get the hang of it quickly, I suggest you go to your pet store and pick up a bunch of books on kings, these will help you alot. If you read the books and still have questions, with no doubt, someone here will be able to help you.

I was told i have a female, but i have my doubts. I have read that males have longer tapering tales with a little bit of a wider base where the hemipenes are. My snake is 23 inches, 3 of those inches is the tail. The base of the tail seems to be a little wider than the body just above the vent and the tail seems fairly long, not stubby and it slowly tapers. Is there anyway to tell with out probing? any body have pics of male vs. female tail?? thanks. -Joe
