One male Green Anole to # female Green Anole(s) in one terrarium?

SharkKing Feb 14, 2005 09:59 PM

How many female Green Anoles can a single male Green Anole safely tolerate in a single terrarium assuming say the size is at least about 30-40 gals? (All right all you married guys. I don't want you taking this post personal now, hear? )
Peace.

At the *most*, one lizard per 10 gallons - no more than that. Be prepared for babies (separate baby housing), because they will breed.

I wouldn't go with any more than 2 females with the one male in a 30 gallon..and yes, they will mate, but the eggs will only survive under proper husbandry. But as to how many "one male will TOLERATE"...well, some may tolerate many females, while others may tolerate no females. I actually had one male and two females together and it was one of my females that did NOT tolerate the male. If you haven't had anoles before, I would definately start with one, and learn as much as you can before getting more.

Just "two" females you say? I'm not too sure about that BlazedBetty? My little anole looks to me to have the makings of a "frisky" little critter. You say you had/have a female anole that would not tolerate a male anole? That couldn't be an observation/conclusion based on any amount of "gender bias" now could it, Betty? Just kidding! You're A-Ok in my book and a really great source of quality info and generous enough to freely share what you've learned no doubt from years of firsthand experience. Seems to be a LOT of great folks on this KingSnake.Com message board. Wish I would have found it sooner.
Yes, I am sticking with the one male Green Anole for now. I'm also not interested in breeding Green Anoles but with any animal I worry about whether they have a natural need for companionship even if it's only seasonally during their breeding cycle part of the year. Peace.
