Good News! Also question on Meru Jacksons?

TheDrew1 Feb 14, 2005 10:03 PM

I came back from out of town today and i was really hoping that my female would not lay while i was gone but i walked into the room today and she was just finishing up covering her hole. So i took my female and gave her some TLC and i begun digging. I thought this was going to be a big one (shes laid in the 30s before) but it was just 25. So is it the male that determines the number of eggs because my last clutch with this male was 22? Thats it for my breeding season,(going away this summer and i cant be over burdened with babies) 22 eggs from one female and 25 for the other (not to mention 11 beardie eggs) so i guess thats a good start for my first.
Also i really like jacksons and i have some good fun caring for my veileds, so i was thinking of branching out and getting a small cham (not for breeding). Then i saw these Mt Meru jacksons and i thought they were really cool. But i have not seen them for sale anywhere. Does any one know where you can purchase these and how much they usually run for?

Thanks
TheDrew1

I don't think the male has anything to do with the clutch size. It probably has more to do with the female's health...if she is in good condition she can produce more ova. But, there is a point where overfeeding and supernutrition can result in a clutch too large for her to lay successfully. There might be a pattern in the clutch size for an individual female, but I don't know if anyone has determined that. A clutch of 20 or so is a nice conservative size. Much better than 30 or more that can have a higher percentage of poor babies, early deaths, and egg binding of your female.

Be cautious about wc Meru jax. I've read that they can be pretty sensitive and tricky to keep even if cbb.
