How dull do they get right before shedding? Do some of your screams get really pretty average looking just before they shed?

Seems like mine went "downhill" color wise within about a 1-2 week period, and was wondering if it's just the top layer or if I should still really see some color underneath if he's gonna have good color after the shed?

He seems to be browner, and kinda pale - so I think it should be soon
