Top 3 Morphs For Breeding

amoeba14 Feb 15, 2005 03:44 PM

I'm interested in starting my own breeding project and I was curious what you guys thought are the top 3 morphs to get involved with. I know I want to breed albino balls, i just think they are amazing in appearence. What other two can you suggest? Piebald and Pastel??? Thanks in advance, I look forward to hearing what everone has to say.

it all depends on how much you have to spend. pastels are used in most of the morphs, cinni pastels are good, mojaves are good

I don't have a top 3.... I have a top 20! That's my problem... I love em' all!!!

Pick the three you like best... If you plan on creating designer morphs, then I think the most versatile would be the ghost and Spider... they can be combined with almost any existing morph out there...

Sorry, but this is a tough question for me... am I alone on this?

You are not alone...

I wish there were ONLY 20 ball python projects to
get into...

You like Albinos, then you should build your collection around those and purchase other mutations in order to work towards the double homos ;

Albino & Axanthic for Snow
Albino & Piebald for Albino Pieds
Albino & Spider for Albino Spiders

with those you could also work towards ;

Axanthic Pieds
Axanthic Spider
Spider pied

It really boils down to what you like, the investement will be viable for years to come.

I think I'm with Oz on this one - I don't think I could narrow my selection down without first having a gun to my head.

But, possible lead poisoning aside, it would help to know what kind of budget you have first and whether you are looking to breed for the money or the fun of it (no matter what anyone says money is always a factor when discussing breeding morphs...which of the two is more or a factor for you?)

If money wasn't an issue or you were not looking at starting with hets. I would go with (in no particular order)

1. Mojaves (co-dom)
2. Pieds (recessive)
3. Butters (dom/co-dom?)
4. Orange Ghost/Hypos (recessive)
5. Spiders (dom?/co-dom)
6. Pastels (you chose the line) (co-dom)

I know that is six but they are my top six...(told you I couldn't do it!).
