I Dream of Crestie....

cornman Feb 15, 2005 04:48 PM

currently i keep 2 cornsnakes, and i'm planning on buying a 2005 crested gecko. i know i am thinking in advance but i wanna make sure my setup and temps are correct before i buy one. Here are my questions, can i keep a baby crested in a 10gal or does it need something smaller? are fake plants from michaels/hobby lobby ok for them to climb on? and is there a difference (nutritionally) between Crested Gecko diet, and dusted crickets and baby food (planning on doing one day baby food one day crickets). thanks for the info in advance. i can't wait to get one of these interesting and beutiful animals

P.S. if any of what i am planning on doign is incorrect please correct me

I would think a 10 gal. would be ok I personally use 5 gal.
Any fake plants that have been cleaned are ok (do not use bleach)
You can feed him crickets (about the size of your geckos head)every other day alternating with babyfood (you could also mix the CGD in with the babyfood for more nutrients.

My suggestion would be to stick with the CGD diet mixed with water. Mixing with babyfood throws off the nutrional balance...much like giving a child a handful of pixie sticks at each meal.

Feeding CGD 2-3 times per week with a day or two of dusted insects is pretty much perfect for Cresteds.
