Tokay breeding age question...

Ben_C Jul 07, 2003 12:26 PM

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how old a tokay gecko must be before it is able to breed.
Also, is it true that they breed year round?
thanks,
Ben

Usually somewhere around 9 months, I think my male was around 10 months before I noticed activity. Yes they can breed year round, there is no special season.

Depends on how you raise them.
Under normal conditions, most males start calling between 6 anfd 9 months of age. But normally they do not successfully fertilize eggs before they are one year old.
Most females produce their first clutch between 15 and 18 months. Only very few start as early as 12 months old.
They CAN breed year round, but in the wild they do not.
Also my Tokays start laying in April and normally stop in October.

Hope that helps

Ingo
