Pentagon tanks good for terrariums frogs?

dcmander Feb 15, 2005 06:55 PM

Hey guys,

I really like the Pentagon tanks I've seen at the petstores..

I was especialy looking at a 44gal pentagon tank. It had a plexi lid, but I was thinking I could cut the back half behind the light out and put in some screening for ventilation.

Would this setup be sufficient for plants and frogs? I am planning on a 4-5" deep pool with a waterfall in the back corner.

I am planning on putting 2 red eyes, 2 green anoles, and maybe 2 small goldfish in the water.

Would all those be ok together? I really can't see the anoles bothering the frogs or vis versa. The only thing I would be concerned about is the anoles drowning...Do you guys think they would be ok if there was plenty of things coming out of the water they could climb on? And of course...there would be one side of substrate coming out of the water like a beach.

What substate would be sufficient for this setup and these animals?

Does anybody have any pictures of pentagon tank setups or any tips or sites that could help me build a terrarium in one?

I don't think I've seen a frog setup in pentagon, only hex. BUt I think a pentagon would look much better and I'm planning on having the tank in a corner.

Thanks all so much!

Well, I think the HEX idea is a good one, but I really do not recomend mixing species. Anoles are diurnal (day) and RETF are nocturnal (night). I would never trust ANYTHING with RETFs. They are extremly delicate and require high humidity that might cause resperitory problems with your Anoles. Anoles (as far as i know) do not come from the same region as RETF. Consider a rainforest, they are so huge that many species do not interact or live around the other. Anoles might also stress the RETF out by running around them or even nipping their colorful skin. As for the goldfish, big big no no. Goldfish are very dirty fish, They need at least 10 gallons of water to their own, and also get 12 inches long (unless you don't ever change thier water and stick them in a cramped goldfish bowl where they die in 2-3 years, when they are supposed to live to about 20 years). I don't think you will be happy with your species selections in long term. A large HEX would be PERFECT for RETF, but only them.
Make sure you've done ALOT of research with these guys too, as they are very look don't touch frogs and require alot of planning to get the right temp/humidity. Good Luck!!!
