How many Rats?

Hoopy Jul 07, 2003 12:41 PM

Hello all,

I currently have 10 ball pythons that need 1 rat fuzzy (rat fuzzies that just opened there eyes or slightly larger) every 5 days. So I need 10 rat fuzzies every 5 days. How many females would you guys suggest me to have so I can safely cover that amount? I currently feed all of them live rat fuzzies and have been trying to switch them to F/T, but currently have had little to no luck. Anyways, any advice would greatly be appreceited.

You could probably get away with 4, 5 if you want to be extra sure. A low side litter of 6 (they can certainly have more than that) every 3 weeks would mean you'd need 2 litters to cover 10....and so on. You'll need to kill and freeze them at the right size on occasion to be sure you have them at the right size when you need them.

I figure 10 pups per mom per month. So if you feed 10 per cycle with 6 cycles per month, you need 60 rats per month. I. E. 6 moms. This will produce too many, probably, so freeze the rest or raise them to a size you will need later and then freeze them.

P.S. whether you keep two groups 1.3 or one group 1.6 doesnt really matter as long they have enough floor space.
