how humid should the cage be?

rayna Jul 07, 2003 12:43 PM

i have two northern alligator lizards caught in the wild. they have been living happily in an aquarium for several months now, eating well and seem to be very healthy. what i'm wondering is if i have provided enough moisture in the cage for them. in the wild they would be out in the rain (oregon) and in the cage it is fairly dry. they are in a clean potting soil with lots of rocks, twigs and moss to hide under, but should i be adding water every so often?

They should have a bowl of water with them at all times. Mine likes ot just sit in his bowl sometimes, and other times just drinks out of it. Lok at your surroundings...try to match it as much as you can...pretend your terrarium is whats outside.

I agree. If you found them close to were you reside it should be no task to get the climate right. Put a humidity gauge outside. When it peaks put it in the cage and make the cage just as humid
