Hello, I know this has been asked many times but how do i worm my geckos? I live in an area where there are no vets that deal with reptiles and i want to worm them.from the little imformation i can find panacure is the best wormer but what is the correct dosage? Also can the parazap stuff be used on leopard geckos? thank you.

Do not treat your leos unless you KNOW they are ill. It is bad to give medicine when the animal does not need it. You will know you need to use panacur when the leo eats and eats and eats but doesn't gain weight or is losing weight. If the leo is healthy and gaining weight do NOT administer any medication.

Administering unnecessary medicine to your geckos will cause more problems than it will fix. There has to be at least one vet close to you that deals with herps. Where do you live? If you haven't already, check herpvetconnection.com. Or you can check with your local pet stores, vet clinics, and animal rescues to see who they would advise taking your geckos to. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but it isn't fair to keep reptiles in an environment where they have no access to medical attention.

Ok first I have asked my local vet and I did look at that website and they are all 50 miles awy or more. I do have an adult male that was eating very well and now hardly eats and is starting to get a thin tail. I just want to try all that i can to get him healthy

He may have a sickness. Check your setup and make sure it is as perfect as you can get it (correct temps, etc). If it is, call one of the vets and ask them if they do phone consultations. If the animal is that bad, you might have to make the trip to save him. Good luck!!!

Check with all the vets in your area. Fecal flotations are the same with a leopard gecko as with a 100lb dog. They all use a small sample and look for floating parasite eggs. They may just be looking for some different eggs, so you could help them out by ordering a copy of Dr. Klingenberg's 'Understanding Reptile Parasites' book, and his laminated ID sheet with formulary. BUT, any good vet should have the references to make an ID, especially since many(most?) of the same parasites affect geckos as other pets. He should have the medications on hand and be able to calculate the correct dosage from the above references.

Good luck

not with a thermo on the back glass. that is pretty usless IMO you need to check the temps on the floor level where your gecko spends his time for instance in the warm side hide.

i always ask people i see when they have thermometers up in the tops of leo tanks why that temp matters.

i just have a ruler with a zoomed thermo taped to it i can take temps anywhere in the cage by placing that ruler where i want.
what diferance does it make if your warm side is 88° 5 inches off the floor level or against the back wall if that isn;t where you gecko goes to get warm?
