Keeping Bulls together.

terryd Feb 16, 2005 12:04 AM

I am getting two Bulls from a friend, one Female one Male.
(just some quick info: There both WC adults from Montana, the Female from the Bighorn river, I helped w/ the capture. The Male from the Missouri river, near Craig, Montana.) My friend has kept them together in a 55 gallon aquarium for about two years.
I was wondering if this is a good practice or an accepatable practice. I don't keep any of my species of snakes together, but do keep Rubber Boas together, and they do fine and may enjoy it. But Bulls are not Boas. I would like to keep them in the said 55 gallon aquarium. But I can seperate them too.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Bulls are not known for being snake eaters, but with that said we have every known kind of snake almost eat other snakes. We had a customer even have a 3' corn eat a 2 1/2' Ball python so it does happen. Usually in a feeding response and another snake is just so easy for a snake to swallow.

After that there are a number of husbandry problems that can be magnified by keeping two animals together, but again it can be done and some folks do it for years and get away with it.

We house all of our adults and youngsters separately as soon as we can after they are hatched or born and that is what I would suggest to you if at all possible.
