Will this work as a humid hide???

chibicricket Feb 16, 2005 10:15 AM

I'm putting together a new tank for my new tang leo that will be arriving the last week of Feb. I have a ceramic dish that was originally used for a bonsai tree, and I was going to use it for a humid hide. Does the hide have to be enclosed? The one I'm using for my baby leo is an enclosed tupperware container with a hole cut in the side. But I've run out of those, so I thought maybe the ceramic dish would work with some coconut soil in it. It's deep enough for a gecko, but has no top. Wasn't sure if that would be a factor. Any thoughts? (I'll post some pics of my set up soon.)

Well personally I am a big fan of the tuperware! But you need to remember what a humid hide is. Usually the more contained it is the easyer it is to keep humid. Just some thoughts....as long as you keep it moist I am sure it will do the trick. Also you said you ran out of tuperware? First off, wash old ones? Second off the cost like $2 for 4? Just go to a dollor store or something.

Yeah, I'm a little lazy. School, work, and a 2yr old keep me pretty busy. The ceramic dish looked really nice in the new tank, that's why I thought about it.

just put damp papertowels under it and place it over the warm spot, this will create humidity

i use styrofoam meat trays, tupperware containers work just as good, but they are not the only thing you can use
