Vacation

tetrafish2 Feb 16, 2005 12:51 PM

I apologize for posting twice. What do you guys do when you are on vacation? I am currently in college and I would like to have a leopard gecko in my apartment, but I am at school most of the day. Also, I go home for the weekend about once every month. Is it dangerous to keep the UTH plugged in without any supervision? I do not want be sitting in class and worrying about my heat mat starting a fire or cracking the aquarium glass. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Whenever I go on vacation, which I'm about to go away for a week myself, I usually have my family pet sit. But if that's not an option for you, there are some herp vets that will do the same for a small fee. It's not a good idea to leave any animal for longer than a day.

Hey!
I just graduated and my leos went through all four years with me and they are no worse for wear. I was gone all day and went home EVERY weekend (how else was I supposed to eat and do my laundry?). I just made sure that they were well fed (I feed my lil' angels three times a week) and that they had plenty of water. Since I left Friday afternoon and returned Sunday night, they were not alone that long anyways. If it is of real concern to you, you can always have a friend check them on Saturday. I would not worry though. If you use a thermostat and a high quality heat pad, you should be just fine.

Thanks so much for your responses! I am assured that I can keep these creatures. But I was wondering what sort of thermostat you guys use? Is the rheostat by Zoomed reliable? My main fear is starting a fire in my room. Thanks again!

-PS, whats the difference between mealies and superworms? And they can be refrigerated to last longer right?
