Can anyone point me towards a resource to gain info and possibly prices on a water resistant camera? It will not be completely submerged but will be out in the rain.

You can actually buy disposable waterproof box cameras for under $15 at Walmart.
If you just need it for a quick trip, that could work.
Otherwise, you are looking at much more serious money.
Try looking on B&H photos website (bhphotovideo.com).
