>>> Milksnake Lengths???

Dan6971 Feb 16, 2005 02:31 PM

I am really amazed at the design of the Milksnakes that are Orange, White, and Black Striped - they are fascinating!

The only thing I am wondering is, how big they get? I have read that they MAY get to a length of 4 feet - is that true? I am looking to get a large snake and I'm afraid that, although I like the look of them, 4 feet may be too small for me.

I am looking in the Jungle Carpet Pythons - they get to about 6 or 7 feet and are nicely designed/colored (and hopefully good for a beginner).

Any ideas? Any Kingsnakes that are nicely designed (like the Milksnakes I described)?

Thank you,
Dan

I think you mean Orange and black and yellow bands not stripes.
If you want a truly impressive milksnake, nothing beats a Honduran milk as an adult. Other Central American Milks get large also like Andean and Ecuadorian Milks but they are not as colorful as Hondurans. Hondurans have been known to reach 7+ feet in length and all get over 4 feet.
Another huge milk is a Black Milk. As a neonate it is a tricolor. As it grows it loses its red and yellow/cream colored bands and eventually turns in to a solid black giant of a milksnake.
Hope this helps,

I really like those Tri-Colored ones.

What are the average sizes? I have read an average of 4 feet (which is kind of small). 5-6 feet is better.

How is their behavior?

Thanks!

Hondurans are tricolored as well as the tangerine phase i just posted. The others I mentioned are tricolors as well. They will all get over 6 feet in length...

For real? Over 6 feet??? I've read they get around 4 feet. Do you have a site link for me, please?

Thanks!

Now that's a big boy! Is that normal or rare? Most every place I looked says that they grow to around 4 Feet.

Are the Tri-Color Banded Hondurans Orange, Red, & Black ones that can get to 6 Feet? What is their true name? I've seen different names of Hondurans.

By the way, how is their temperment?

Thanks for the info - much appreciated!!!

If it says Honduran anywhere in the name of the morph of the snake, it will grow large:

Tri Color Honduran milk snake
Anery Honduran milk snake
albino honduran milk snake
hypo honduran milk snake
tangerine honduran milk snake
and so on, and so on.

do a search on Google.com, yahoo.com, or any other search engine for Honduran milk snakes and you will find more than what you are looking for.

I have been doing research.

I have seen: 48" & (I have seen): 5 Feet - 6 Feet

I don't know what to believe...

48": http://www.wnyherp.org/care-sheets/Snakes/milk-snake.html

5'-6': http://www.homegrownherps.com/expected_milksnakes.htm

Which is true???

Can anyone please post a pic of a nice, Red, White/Yellow, & Black Tri-Colored Honduran Milksnake at full-size (with measurement)?

I really love the way these look and I am hoping to get one, if they can grow at least 5 feet long...

Thank you,
Dan
