swallon mouth

bloodroses19 Feb 16, 2005 04:14 PM

last week i noticed that dracos bottom jaw was very swallon. he bites his cage door alot when he wants to come out or is hungry. so i think thats what its from but it has not gone down and now there is this weird gue around his bottom lip. its starting to worry me and i was wondering if this is something i should bring him to the vet for or if there is something i can do to treat it at home. he just went to the vet for his yearly fecal exam 2 months ago and that was ok and he was healthy. any clue as to what is wrong with my poor draco? oh also i think its making it harder for him to eat because he has not been finishing his food like he normally does. thanks everyone. -brandy

Sounds like it could be either A. mouth rot or B. MBD.

Do you use a UVB light with your ig? and does his diet include calcium?

one of the symptoms of MBD is a swollen or rubbery bottom jaw.

Either way, i would get your ig to the vet asap.

he has uvb 8 hours a day. and calcium with d3 dusted on his food every other day. this happened all of a sudden. if it was mbd wouldnt it happen over a period of time? im guessing its mouth rot. or an infection from a cut in his mouth from biting the cage door. he does that a lot. how does an iguana get mouth rot? and how would they treet it? is there something im doing i should change? im gonna call my vet and make an apointment. its looking worse today. thanks for the reply.

If it is mouth rot, you need to get to a vet fast. Even if it isn't the vet will be able to identify the problem and guide you in the right direction.
