Anyone keeping uro's outdoors in colonys?

SCVReptiles Feb 16, 2005 10:30 PM

I have a section in my backyard that I am going to turn into a large outdoor vivaria for either tegus, uros, blue tongues, or monitors. Uro's have always appealed to me more and I was wondering if anyone has done this before and has any opinions or information. Thanks.

Ken

I don't, and don't personally know anyone who does (weather's not good for it here), but I remember seeing that the folks at Agama International do:

Maybe you can get some info from them.

I've always wondered how you can keep a burrowing species outdoors - allow them to burrow but not to escape. Maybe enclosed bottom with giant craggy rockpile?

Yes, Bert at Agama has his uros outside. I think he installs galvanized sheets of steel in the bottom of his outdoor pens and then adds about 2 feet of mulch/dirt over top. At least that's what he does for the tegus.

You'd have to have the right temps in your area for basking to keep them outside. Not all uros can be outside, but Bert picked some hardy ones just for that purpose.
