Forest Bed Substrate? Any one ever use this? SAFE?

yellowconda12 Feb 17, 2005 12:06 AM

My blizzard which was sick from impactation on sand has been to the vet. I will never buy the sandy stuff of death again! I am now using a substrate called FOREST BED substrate. It comes in a big brownish red block, and you place it in water it expands etc. It looks like a mix of finely grated bark and plant stuff in a matrix of soil like stuff. If any one has used this before please write on good/bad just replaced all my medium on my three cages. Any info would be great.

I have used it for snakes before but never with leos. It is still loose enough to be eaten so it may cause impaction, but it may be able to pass through, i would ask a vet about that.

Other than that, as long as you keep it dry i dont see the problem.

But please correct me if i am wrong...

if i'm correct, this gecko has been through a lot recently, as have you. I would suggest paper towel for now. i use that stuff for lay boxes, but it's really too moist to use as a full substrate.

I have moved her like three times in the lasty week and a half, changed substrate, 2 trips to the vets. She has been just hanging out on the warm spot from the heat elements (lights, uth) I think shes looking better since the impactation removal. I don't want to movve her again, planning on hand feeding if she'll let me or feeding outside of the tankif she wont. Any idea's or comments if not good Idea please tell me. Been looking for more green poop, none yet!
