A sweet story.........

madisonrecords Feb 17, 2005 06:21 PM

Believe it or not, I am capable of posting a sweet story. It never stops to amaze me " the power of a good woman " and for those of you who are married, you know what I mean. A couple of weeks ago I was talking to my photographer that photographs music events that I am doing here and there. He asked me over the phone if I knew anybody that liked snakes and I laughed and told him that; " I was a herper to the extreme. " He informed me that he had two Ball Pythons that he bought when his daughter was 1yr old and now she was off to college almost 17yrs later and they are the only two snakes he had ever had and wanted to put them in a good home. I told him that I would glady take them and of course I was thinking that two 17yr old female Balls would be worth a pretty penny to some of my Morph buddies. I got them Monday and probed them and they turned out to be both, big, huge males. I was disappointed and kind of upset and knew that I had no need for them and I looked at my wife and said: " They are both males and pretty worthless! " She looked at me with anger at first and then got very serene and said something that gave me a much neede reality check. She said; " Those two animals were loved for almost 17yrs by this one family and their love and worth were not based on money or their sex and I want you to tell me one more time why you are in this Hobby. " I was floored and could have wept and it reminded me of just that; " I love the animals and GOD does speak through people and especially my dearist Wife. " Needless to say," They will be here now for the rest of their lives and treated as well as anything I have and loved. " I may even breakdown and get them a big mutation female to breed. Ooops! did I say that? Take this story as you will or do not take it at all. It was truly a reality check for me........GOD BLESS.....Johnson Herp

Thats a good reality check, more times than not I see young kids getting into the hobby with $$$$ in their eyes, which is sad, The morph craze is fueled the hobby to a new level, the kids I have encountered instead of wanting a pet snake, they want a pair so they can breed there own and make money. I don't mean to bash morphs, cause I keep them myself, but I too have normal ball pythons, and I think they are great. Thanks for the story, maybe it will make other keepers rethink why they are in the hobby.
