Updated pics and bad news

ZPD Feb 18, 2005 12:07 AM

Good news first: My female looks like she is ready to burst, and I am fully prepared with laser temp gun and a professional incubator and alot of support from people like Doug. She just today declined to eat for the first time. Also I have some great pics to share.

Bad news: Due to a death in my family and our situation we are forced to move into a smaller home. Due to lack of space in my tiny new room and the mutual lack of support of my family (both women) I will regretably have to sell my pair of adults. Fortunately I was LUCKY enough to have the full bang for my buck experience while owning this pair. This experience includes getting bitten (gnarliest bite from any animal so far), observing their intelligent behavior and most of all being somewhat successfull in breeding them. I have been informed that im not even close to being in the clear, but hey im happy to have gotten this far. If all goes well I will definately be keeping one or two new babies to buy me some time until I move out (fingers crossed), that way I can stay in the loop. I should pray.

So without further adue here are the pics...

In my experience, indigos have a marked "pre-lay" shed, and then it's a good 12 to up to 24 , hair-pulling-out days (notice how Doug, Fred and I look) until they deposit the eggs.

She's is very large, and certainly looks ready to bust, but I've had them be in that state for weeks.

Did she breed in Nov / Dec?
March and April seem to be the months that captive couperi typically drop eggs. I've had females that were HUGE at x-mas time not drop eggs until March.

Good luck

He last shed was almost 3 weeks ago. She was hardly noticeable at that time, compared to the way she looks now. I first started putting them together around the end of Oct (pretty sure). When I was looking at the pictures I posted, it looks like she might be getting ready to shed again by the way the flash reflected off her eye cap. They didnt breed the first time I introduced them, they were a little freaked out at having another snake in their territory, fun to watch that exchange. Already at this point I go up twice a day into our snake room and check to see if anything has happened. Fortunately shes always in her nest box when I go to clean their cages so I dont have to handle her.
