The female will turn dark with orange highlights. Some females will turn almost black, but I've seen gravid females just turn a slight shade darker (almost purple).
Another indicator is to let her get a brief glimpse of a male. She should immediatly become defensive and gape. Keep this brief and immediately remove the male from view if she does this. Otherwise, if she remains calm you can pair her up again.
Hope this helps.

Here's a good article on pardalis chameleons...I quoted the line about gravid
(non-receptive) coloration...but you might like to read the rest.

" Intense black/brown and orange coloration mark
gravid coloration. "
This page shows pictures of the different morphs of pardalis...

From that page, I chose two that show non-receptive/gravid
coloration.....

Non-receptive/gravid coloration is usually very dark in the
background with bright orangey spots.
Receptive/non-gravid females usually have a lighter coloration
and often a peachy color.
Both of these vary to some extent with the morph.
If you don't know panther chameleons well, its hard to match the
male with a female from the same area....which is important if
you want to keep the breeding lines pure.
Hope this helps.
