Horned Mountain Dragon Activity?

deviledapple Feb 18, 2005 11:52 AM

I've had my lil guy about a week and a half now, and hes yet to move around. he looks healthy, i soak him to insure at least some hydration, but he just stays where i put him. i keep trying to improve his enclosure to get him to respond to SOMEthing but hes still giving me the shrug off. i havnt gotten a fecal of fhim yet, although soon he's probably going to just get dragged off to the vet so i can at least get a general wormer, as well as get him checked out for MBD, hes only got one jowel under his chin. I'm assuming he was WC, although the way the woman i purchased him from was talking, it sounds like hes been in captivity for at least a couple of months. the most activity he's shown is the day i bought him, he climbed up my arm when i looked into the container to see what those things where.... (and thus he ended up at home with me when i couldnt pry him loose...)

is staying put normal?

i have him in an open-air wire "iguana" cage (id love to see hte iguana that fit in it for very long) i'd estimate to be about 4 ft tall, and 2x2 ft. i have a plastic liner in the bottom with some cypress mulch, one half of the bottom is taken up by a fish tank which i've filled almost full with water, i have a standard over the edge filter on it, as well as an in the tank filter that makes the water really bubbly, and an airstone. there is also a ficus which goes 2/3 the way up the cage. i then have piles of branches made into perches, and a basking spot made from a 60 watt bulb in a dome cover. theres a few small plants sitting on hte bottom of the cage. theres a ledge halfway up, which i set the container of crix on, i've tried to hand feed him and such with no luck. hes not looking real thin yet, so i'm not "too" worried about the feeding just yet.

well, now that i stated concern over his lack of movement, it took me about 10 minutes to find where he moved to in his cage. i'm still concerned mind you, but yeeesh i think he did it on purpose.

now hes starting to hand feed! perhaps he likes men better for some reason? my male friend was over and wanted to hand-feeding him, and i went ahead and let him, and BAM! now he's eating from me too. so far i've gotten him around 6 crix, i've coated them a bit heavier than normal in supplements, because of my fear of MBD with his single jowel. i put some crix in the fridge, since non-wiggling ones will allow me to feed him better... i HATE touching crickets, esp squirmy ones... (but hey, no problem braining a dead rat... oh yeah that makes sense)

With activity, as long as your temp and activity check out OK (look at FroggieB's site for some info)and you're sure on his health, I wouldn't worry. They're super lazy. I have one male who I swear to God never moves.

And with the feeding, one of my males has a definte male bias. He won't eat if I'm around.

this guy only eats if i hand feed it to him. odd for a WC i'd think... i know he moves because he appears on diffrent branchs and in diffrent positions, though i cant catch him doing it. his colour is improving (well, i guess improving, i like hte grey, haha) hes starting to show some greens. I'm prolly gunna start giving him water/electrolytes by hand, since im pretty sure he isnt going down to drink.

Haha, very reconizible.
Normally I feed crickets from the hand and worms in a dish.
This time I put the crickets in the dish and I saw she was looking at them. This last 2 days, the crickets couldn't come out and she didn't came down to catch them. I thought she wasn't hungry enough. But then I offered these crickets by hand, and she eat them right away.
So they are very lazy
