Grrrrrrrrr *&#@ing lights!!!

BlazedBetty Feb 18, 2005 04:41 PM

I was using 2 18" strip light fixtures with 40 Watt 5.0 ReptiGlo bulbs...I wanted to just use 1 48"...so I go buy the bulbs - 1 5.0 & 1 2.0, then head to Home Depot to buy a 4' double bulb shoplight...only to find out that the majority of shoplights are T12..so I go to another place to pick up a T8 ballister (sp?) to replace the T12 in the shoplight..only to be told that the T8's are for a max. 32 Watt! So I'm standing here with 2 40 Watt T8 bulbs...and the only fixture I could get to put them in is the one at the petstore for 300 BUCKS! As the guys at the electrical shop told me they have never heard of a T8 ballister for 40 Watts?!?! So what's the one at the petstore got? Well he says 40 Watt but won't take it apart to show me....so what to do?? AM I being misinformed? Is this some sort of scam where you have to buy this certain fixture for these lights?? I'm so gonna freak out!!! Help..please

I believe rewiring shop lights with T-8 ballasts is pretty common. You might look up the UVB Owner's Group board on yahoo.groups. You'll probably be able to find the answer right in the files section.
