Cal King Diet Question

ColuberKing25 Feb 18, 2005 05:27 PM

I have a beautiful Cal King which I obtained as a hatchling in October 2003. Now, she is still in a 5.5 gallon but swallows pinkies very quickly. Is that a sign that she could start eating thawed fuzzies? And when should I switch her to a 10 gallon?

Go ahead and switch it to a 10 gallon now, to give her more room to grow. I got my little cali in December, and gave it a 10 gallon tank from the start. And upgrade her food to atleast "peach fuzzies." If you give her 2 or 3 pinkies a feeding, instead of 1 fuzzy, she will grow more. So it's your choice.

Thanks a lot. Just so you know, I feed T-rex frozen rodents. The fuzzies I have now are the T-rex fuzzies. Are they an ok size? By the way, nice albino you have there. I have a black and white Cal king. Only $25 but she is beautiful and very active and entertaining.

I think the "rule" is, your snake should be able to take down the mouse if the mouse is smaller than the snake's widest part of it's body. I have no clue how big the "TRex" fuzzies are.

I was shocked when I opened a pack of T-rex fuzzies for my ball python(shop had no small adults!). They are only a tiny bit larger than pinkies and had a small amount of fur.

Those sound like peach fuzzies. By looking at one of those that you have, and looking at your snake, you should be able to tell whether or not the snake can eat the mouse.

Ok thanks. Again, nice albino! Mine is a beautiful black and white banded. Sooner or later I'll post some pics up of her. I don't think I saw her yesterday. Maybe she's in blue again
