Ball Python not feeding is this normal!?

Snuffz Feb 18, 2005 06:04 PM

Hi guys,
I bought a 4yr old adult royal python a month ago, it was apparently feeding in the shop where i bought it but since ive had it its not fed once! I called the shop up and they confirmed that it had fed whilst it had been there.
I am using frozen rats and making sure their warm before i give them to him but hes just nt eating.
ive tried leaving the rat in his cage and leaving him too it, ive tried holding the rat with tweezers over his nose, i dont know what to do.
The shop said it aws normal for pythons to sometimes not feed for awhile particularly as it is winter, but im worried!
Any ideas?!
Thanks.
T x

Most adults stop feeding this time of year. It is not hard on them and is very common. Ask the shop where you purchased the snake what they were feeding it. They may have been using live prey. If this is the case, do the same for now.

Last winter, my ball python stopped feeding (moved up to small rats for a few feedings) for around 4 months, well into spring. I wasn't overly concerned, since I read on this board that this type of behavior is common, but one day I decided to throw in a couple of adult mice anyway, as I was feeding them to my colubrids.
In minutes - gone! Since then I haven't even bothered to go back to rsts, she eats around 3 every 2 weeks and is healthy and growing.
Just one experience but sometimes these snakes confound you!
