Household Bulbs Safe??

animalfreak1988 Jul 07, 2003 03:41 PM

Are regular household bulbs we use for lighting safe for heating a RES? If so, what wattage would I use?

Yes, they are safe for heating, if you use a thermometer to determine how hot your basking spot is. The wattage will depend on how far away the light is from the basking spot, the size of the tank, and the size of the turtle, anything from 40 to 75 watts usually

Don't forget that you'll need a UVB bulb such as Reptisun 5.0 in addition to the heat source. Those run about $30-40 depending on size and where you buy them.
