possible egg binding? how urgent? answer please!

geckogrl6 Feb 18, 2005 10:35 PM

Freckles really should have laid her eggs about a week ago, if not more. What bothers me now is that it looks like she's got anothere set of eggs developing. As in, I can see four distinct white blobs. There is an emergency clinic that will see her tonight. They are at least an hour away and it's below freezing here. My only other option is to wait until Monday morning (hopefully) if not Tues, w/the holiday, for her to be seen by my reg wonderful herp vet. how urgent is this? do I need to take her in immediately or can I make the appointment for the week?

exactly how long has she been gravid?

the white blobs you can see now may be ovulation, which means she will drop eggs any day now, when was the last time she shed?, if she goes into a shed within the next few days, this may be her pre-egg laying shed, usually a day or 3 after this they drop their eggs..if the white blobs you see is ovulations, the stress from going to the hospital may cause some problems, i would only take her if another week went by and no eggs have been laid and the "blobs" get bigger

if she has a moist lay box, calcium, and her weight and age were good befor laying, there is really no reason to becom eggbound

yeah, I think the new blobs are too big to be ovulation. To my knowledge she has not shed in quite some time. it is possible that I just didn't catch it, and I have reason to believe her calcium is not what it should be, although I have started encouraging more into her.

Geckogrl6, there are also fat bodies in the same area that are mistaken for eggs sometimes as well..... When a female has eggs growing inside of her, the eggs kinda push things around inside and make certain things more visible than usual.... Also like Dan stated, it can be her ovulating, which means that the eggs infront are just about ready to pop out to make room for the new developing eggs..... I have had females hold onto eggs for as long as 5 weeks.... I would not worry just yet.... If you see that she has not layed within the next week, take her to the vet....

I will relax for another week or so and keep pushing the calcium.
