Western Hognose snake substrate and lighting

solfugid Feb 19, 2005 01:30 AM

I have two questions on western hog nose snakes. First, does sand make good substrate or is aspen bedding better? Second, do they need a heat light or is a undertank heat pad enough? Thanks.

Many hoggie keepers like aspen shavings over sand.

Heat pad is sufficient, unless you have a vivarium style cage where lighting is required for an attractive display.
