hatches on the 49th day of incubation, it that normal?

snkegrl Feb 19, 2005 01:56 AM

i've read beardies hatch between 55 to 70 days into incubation. but, one of the two fertile eggs my female beardie layed in her very 1st clutch, hatched on the 49th day into incubation. the other egg hasn't even hatched yet!
the little one hatched on the 14th, he/she is 4 inches long (don't know the weight). looks healthy, very active, eats and drinks, and all that good stuff.

but i was just curious if that is unusual or not.

here are somemore pics of the baby:

here is the "mom" - Shu Fang:

Shu Fang is 20 months old right now.

and here is the "dad" - Li:

Li was only 8 months old (with no cooling off period) when he decided to put the moves on Shu Fang.

The Bearded Dragon book I have says 55-70 days into incubation. I've never heard anyone say that theirs has hatched 49 days into it.

But if they are fully developed before the 49th day, then wouldn't it be ok for them to hatch early much like a woman going into labor at 6 months and not 9?

I say keep an eye on the little one and see if anything funny goes on.

You can always take a fecal to the vet just in case.
