Is this a sperm plug? (PIC)

CJBianco Feb 19, 2005 03:44 PM

Please tell me this is NOT a sperm plug.

(NOTE: There was a second long end, but it stretched and snapped upon removal.)

It came from a shed & not from you manually everting it...Right?

It was manual, but very gentle. I finally got my sexing probes today along with a short homemade video on probing provided by a fellow forum member. I turn the 1200 gram animal upsidedown, and I notice a small crusty thing coming out of his opening. I bent his tail back slightly, and ever so gently removed this crusty piece of waste. (I thought it was maybe left over from a stool.) When I looked at it up close...my jaw dropped. It sank in that it might be a sperm plug. Gross. =/

Thats what it is, a sperm plug. Sometimes you can find them after a shed that look very similar to the pic you posted.

Good one, Chad!

"Other piece broke off upon removal..."

LMAO! aahh I love it.

Congrats? From all the "800 gram male ball python PRODUCING SPERM PLUGS!!" ads, I'd say its something to be proud of. I wouldn't know, I've never bred snakes before.

Some Ball's will produce sperm plugs before 400 grams, so 800 grams is fairly normal.

Because it means that the snake is producing sperm? Self-explanitory in a way...

That would be a sperm plug ----> I hope you didn't get it off a snake you thought was a female?

No. I figured it might be a male. The problem is that I've been waiting desperately for my probes to arrive, and a fellow forum member went through all the trouble to make a short demonstration video showing me how to properly probe. And then it took DAYS and several cross-platform programs in order to finally send it to me for download. I'm serious. It has been a CRAZY journey trying to download this video. Then my probes arrive today, and as soon as I turn the animal over...

And I've been checking this animal for signs of sperm plugs for MONTHS hoping that I would be able to finally discover the sex.

Does KS let you post 2 threads in a row? I just typed up a question on frozen feeders and it didn't post. I posted a question before it, so that's why I'm asking.

Thanks,
Ryan
