Hey,

Do tortoises -- leos and sulcatas in particular -- shed layers of skin as they grow? My juvi leo is shedding skin at the moment. I am worried that this may indicate some sort of infection if it is not in fact normal behavior.

Thanks!

In juveniles this is totally normal if the skin is dry. As they get larger it is not normal to come off in large patches.

Thanks, EJ. You always provide good info.

So, my torts skin is dry. What should I do: Let it be? Increase/Decrease soakings (every other day now)? Rub him down with lotion (kidding)?

What do you suggest?

In hatchlings to yearlings I wouldn't give it any concern. Do you provide a humid area for the guy? That's the only thing I'd suggest.
