Once these laws are "on the floor", it is very difficult to stop them from passing; even if a petition is delivered. Once again, the herp hobby/industry has become reactionary instead of proactively guarding and protecting its own rights. We can only blame ourselves for the many bad apples that have ruined it for the handfull of responsible keepers (and our apathy). Kentucky WILL pass this bill; the herp community had their chance. Does this mean we should just throw in the towel? No....doing the petition won't hurt but it is just one of several things that had to be done BEFORE it ever made it this far.

But we know that all laws do not even make it to a bill when it comes to certain proposals. The proposal stage ( in my opinion ) is where the signed petitions would do best but then most petition better carry some clout in signers. The best thing hat a petition MIGHT do is give some leeway on the law. Like grandfathering or a restriction that may not be termed as total ban. The trouble with this though, is that once the law has been passed with restriction or grandfathering, it will come up again in the future and then maybe a total ban would initiate. Then normally with a grandfathering or restriction there seems to be permits in order with $$$ signs attached to the permit and or heavy documentation. That itself wouldn't be that bad if it was conceived as a wheel of motion to keep going in this scenario. But way to many times it's just a slowdown of time before the ultimate happens.
