help! my crested is shaking

xtoolxchickx Feb 19, 2005 11:40 PM

Today I was misting my crested's cage when I noticed my female was laying on the bottom floor of the cage, a little unusual for her. When I tried to pick her up, she bit me, also unusual, and then went into a spasm. She writhed across the bottom of the tank, it was almost like a huge seizure. All of her limbs were moving strangely, and she was twitching. When everything was over, she just laid there, still sort of twitching, but not moving much. Her toes were all balled up, not flat on the ground, and her lungs were heaving. I didnt do anything for several minutes, just watched and waited. Eventualy, I misted her a little, and she licked the water off of her nose. She still has not stopped shaking though, and she has only moved a few inches. When she does move, she has tremors. I'm not sure what could have caused this, or if there is anything I can dom but if anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. The tank is about 74 degrees fahrenheit, and the humidity is 80%. She gets fed supplemented baby food and vitamin dusted crickets. Recently I had a crested die simply of wasting away despite how much I fed her. I've read a little bit on the forum about this possible ameobic parasite, and the crested I am speaking of here has no symptoms of anything like that. Please help.

The problem here is likely related to her diet. Baby food is high in sugar, even supplemented baby food is probably too much. It's comparable to feeding a kid candy for dinner. As far as treatment, I cant really say much here without it being a complete guess. If you could post more information regarding the supplementation, what you use and such that would be helpful. I do know that tremering is common in calcium deficient animals, though if she's getting dusted crickets I doubt this is the problem.

More information is needed, and hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge on the subject can chime in here.

I supplement the baby food with flukers repta vitamin powder and additional calcium amd D3 powder, but she usually gets crickets, dusted with the same thing.

sounds really like a lack of blood calcium, are you breeding her? This is mostly seen in females that are bred to small or unhealthy but could also be a case of lack of calcium, are you gutloading the food with a high calcium diet maybe also try providing a UV light source like a 2.0 bulb.
