Need help on my beardie>>

blixs Feb 20, 2005 09:11 AM

I bought my Dragon 5 yrs ago and was told it was a male by the store owner. This last Friday, Freddy the beardie laid 12 eggs in the cage. So found my dude was a dudet. I was wondering if some of you could tell me which species of dragon she is?

If you copy and paste this one it is a picture of her head:

She looks healthy to me. She looks exactly like my brothers bearded, Draco, she's downstairs in his room. She's just a Pogona (regular, no special morph) Bearded Dragon.

Although your's does look a little lighter in coloration.

Cool.

My question is why she laid the eggs in the first place. It could be that she was just tired of you referring to her as a he so she decided to lay eggs to set you straight on her being female.

Draco, my brother's female, has never laid eggs. Hades, my male ( I think he's a he) has also never laid eggs. SO my mom thinks Draco's a he and not a she.

They are infertile right? No way she could've escaped and done the nasty with a neighbors bearded, right?

I'm not sure why she laid eggs, I figured after I saw that she was kind of like a bird in the way that if they have a place to laid them they will have eggs but if there is no male then they will not be fertilized eggs.

The dragon looks to be in good shape, and healthy. Make sure you feed a bit extra to fatten her up, and get her body back to what it was before she laid her eggs.. Making eggs takes lots out of females, so make sure she is eating good both live foods, and healthy beardie salads. Make sure she is staying hydrated by offering her drinks of water, spraying her greens, and giving her baths as egg production seems to draw a lot of fluids from the mother. It is possible for her to lay more eggs this season, so make sure she is getting the calcium, and vitamins she needs dusted on her foods.

As for species she is a pogona vitticeps or inland bearded dragon. This species is the most popular, and most available dragon in the USA. If you wanted to know what morph she was that would be impossible to know unless you knew what her parents were.

I don't know much about egg laying other than you need to give her a good amount of food to fatten her up again.
As far as the breed - she looks like a pogona vitticeps to me.
