Regular paper towels as a substrate for Anoles?

SharkKing Feb 20, 2005 09:18 AM

What do you think of using plain ordinary paper towels as a substrate for Anoles in a tank enclosure? I've read a few places that some Herpers do just that and they say it's great and allows them to easily clean their Anole(s)' tank and so forth.
Right now I'm using some bark like stuff for reptiles that I get at my local pet store for my Anole but I worry that it might foster bacteria/germs even though I clean it regularly with him dropping on it and what not. Thanx. Peace.

Skip the bark. I would actually recommend coconut fiber, which will maintain your humidity better than just plain paper towels. Also, if you've got a group of them, the coconut fiber will give females a place to lay their eggs.

I keep Crested Geckos on it and a red-foot tortoise. A little goes a long way.
