Muscle Spasms

ginebig Feb 20, 2005 11:38 AM

is this something to concern myself with? I can't connect them with anything specific. They've been goin' on sporadically now for about a month, daily. Most seem to be in the neck muscles directly behind her head. I'm not real worried yet, just thought I'd put it up for opinions sake. Thanks.

A few months ago I posted a thread describing the same (or similar) thing. My burms head would twitch once in a while for no reason. It would only last a few seconds and wouldnt be that often. Someone replied that theirs did the same thing and it seemed like normal behavior. If anyone else has any further info to add jump in any time.

thanks for the reply. It doesn't seem to affect her otherwise normal behavior. She eats like a clydsdale, and is shedding every three weeks. So I'm expecting a serious growth spurt here shortly. If you've ever seen the movie 'Easy Rider', she reminds me of the character Jack Nicholson played. He'd twitch hard every time he took a pull off that bottle of whiskey. It became a trade mark for me in my hard drinkin' days.

Are you talking about actual muscle spasms. Where the muscles under the skin are constricting on their own creating a visible twitch in there skin or are you talking about sporadic head twitches. I have never personally experienced the muscle spasms but many of my burms have done the head twitching. I am not sure why they do this but I do not think it is anything to worry about as long as the snake portrays normal snake behavior in all other aspects. I have noticed that most of these stop as the snake reaches maturity. I have not noticed any of my snakes do this after reaching about 8' or so. Hope this helps a little. Todd

Todd, it's mostly simple spasms, but I have seen the head itself twitch a time or two. Good to know she'll grow out of it though. LOL, and at the rate she's growin' it won't be long.

My 11 footer still does this. It seems like he mainly does it when settling down to rest. Kinda like he's getting situated before taking a nap.
