Hog Island Mystery

chiefmeat68 Feb 20, 2005 12:50 PM

I recently purchased an adult female hog island boa. She is a beautiful animal with little speckling and beautiful creamy pink background. There is no doubt in my mind and in the mind of some of my other boa friends that she is a pure hog. I would like to find out who she came from if I can. I know where she came from but I don’t know who produced her or which hog lines she comes form. She was purchased at the Wasatch Reptile Expo in Utah by a friend of mine in 1999 or 2000 if he remembers correctly. If anyone was there selling hogs or knows who would have been there selling hogs let me know. I realize this is quite a long shot and I would have to have perhaps a picture to match the breeders to prove where she came from but I would really like to find her lineage. Thanks for any help.

Well I hope someone can help you out but that request sounds like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Just as a word of caution I have seen Hog crosses that produced offspring that looked just like pure blood Hogs (i.e. Columbian crosses). I think it would be even hard for an expert to tell the difference. Also Hogs are well known for the large amount of speckling they have. Unfortunately it is not a trait a lot of people like and during the course of a lot of line breeding or crossing the trait tends to fade.

Good luck.
