HOMEMADE VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS..GOOD IDEA????

girlything10 Feb 20, 2005 12:52 PM

Read this and tell me if you think it is a good idea because i would be scared to give a Calcium supplements..

" - The best way to provide extra calcium is by using Calcium Carbonate. It can be found in tablet or powder form in most pharmacies. If you can't find it, you may have to ask the pharmacist for it. Another popular source for calcium supplementation is using crushed Tums™ tablets which can be purchased almost anywhere. "

" Multi-vitamins - Many iguana owners supplement their iguana's diet with human multi-vitamins such as Centrum™ or a generic equivalent. These are in tablet form, so you will have to crush them into a powder before you use them. Multi-vitamins made specifically for women can be a good choice as well because of the higher calcium content than regular multi-vitamins. "

I would probably only do that if you know absolutely what you're doing. You could give too much and that wouldn't be good. I've never heard of crushing up Tums, that's interesting.... Where did you get that information btw?

i looked on google and i typed in something about vitamin supplements for iguanas and the website that came up was something like greenigsociety or something. i have been to the site many times but forget what the link is called. bummer. but yeah, im not going to do that because i could easily do more harm than good. but the thing is.... is that my vitamin supplents have certain things in them that i heard was bad in a supplement.. such as. :::::: dicalcium phosphate,D- activated animal sterol (source of vitamin D-3)
and i heard having that in the supplement was bad..??? the brand is Fluker's and it is called iguana grow for juvenile iguanas.. any information would be greattttlly appreciated. thanks.
