My 66% het female caramel last year laid 8 eggs, took 5 away and let her incubate 3 and guess what ...all 8 eggs hatched on the same exact day ...imagine that !!! Mom was real efficient !!!!

It's hard to give up the control and trust the mother but the one time I tried it I got a 100% hatch rate and she ate very well and produced again the next year. It was fun to watch so I’ll probably try it again some time but some of my racks might be too dry.

I maternal incubate all my eggs. I have been for years with almost no loss due to letting the female incubate her own eggs. The only time I would take a clutch from the female is when the female is young and is showing signs of confusion. By this I mean that the female will not coil her eggs and take care of them. Those eggs do end up in the incubator.

Other then that the other things that end up in the icubator is snakes that are showing signs of RI. This has been a great treatment against RI here at our facility. I try to never treat any snakes with antibiotics if I can help it. I have lost more snakes then saved that way.

The picture is one of my clutches from last year.

Feel free to email if you have any specific questions regarding the way we set up all our females for success.
