Albino pieds?

nekomi Feb 20, 2005 08:21 PM

Has anyone produced albino pieds yet, and could anyone provide any pics? I've been doing some reading on the subject for quite a long time, since albinos and pieds are my two favorite BP morphs.

I do have a quick question also. I may be interested in starting an albino breeding project sometime in the not-so-near future. I'd probably start by buying a 100% het female, and then purchasing an albino male or 100% het male a year or two later.

Assuming that I produced an albino from this pairing (or bought an albino male outright), what would it take to get an albino pied? Albino x pied? Albino x het pied?

Any info is appreciated!! I can get my brain around the genetics of breeding one morph, but not two morphs together. Thanks!!

an albino pied will probably be produced this year if the odds hit. To produce one it = the following.

Albino x pied = all offspring being double hets for both recessive traits. These animals would need to be raised to maturity and then breed back to eachother (brother x sister). Because you are working with double hets the odds of producing an albino pied become a 1 in 16 chance.

This is broken down as the following. het x het = 25% chance at an albino or pied, and then 1 in 4 x 1 in 4 chance of each gene showing threw thus your 1 in 16 odds.

Albino X Piebald will get you normal looking double het offspring. You will have to breed a double het for pied & albino to another double het for pied & albino to get an albino piebald.
