rules on keeping venomous?

jon4534 Feb 20, 2005 11:24 PM

I live in Tennessee and would like to know what I would have to have to keep a venomous snake. Any permits or special training or something like that? Thanks for any replies, Jon

Here ya go...Contact this TN agency. This was taken from Mardi Snipes Website "Costal Reptiles". What ever you snakes you keep obtain and stock the correct Antivenom(s)

Tennessee:

Native Venomous: Permit required

Exotic Venomous: Permit required

Protected Native Venomous: Permit required

Western Pygmy Rattlesnake (Sistrurus m. streckeri)

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency

Ellington Agricultural Center

PO Box 40747

Nashville, TN 37204

Good luck...TN is very specific in it's laws...Unless you can get a permit (i.e. stating that your animals are used for scientific or educational purposes), you're better off moving if you want to own a venomous snake. TN does not even allow the native species to be kept in captivity by private individuals...
