Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me sex my two western hogs. one is about 8 inches with a one inch tail, the other is about 9 inches with a 1.5 inch tail. thanks,

Second Snake

The first pic looks to like a female and the second pic looks like a male.

They both looks like females to me, particularly that second one.

Looks like 2 females to me. You have to go by shape. Those are 2 "in-betweeners." They're sex will become more apparentin the nect year, but I am saying they are 2 females simply by shape. Males would have a more noticeable hemipenal bulge and a longer more tail.

I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS A LONG TIME,,,,,,,,,,,BUT PLEASE NO ONE IS PREFECT BUT THIS SNAKE IS A MALE.

That is a pair of females. I've run into some fairly ambiguous hogs before but those two are pretty cut and dry.

i dont know guys
if the body size in full is only 9 inchs?
maybe both males?
put a pic togather full budy and i might be able to tell you from pics or send me an email i could show you diffrent tail size at diffrent ages. but normally i can tell what sex if i see a full size pic.

Thanks everyone for the advise. Still scratching my head though. They were sold as diffrent sexes but I wasn't sure, both tails seemed similar in length. would diffrent photos/angles be helpful? also if any one has or knows where I can find photos of sexed hoggies tails for comparison I would apreciate it. I was only able to find one such photo googling.

Your best bet is to bring it to an exotic pet store and get it probed. I bought a pair from a guy that even had pics of the two snakes' tails together to compare and I thought they were different sexes based on the length and shape, but when I got them probed and compared to a definite male, the two turned out to be both females. So see if you can find a good store that will probe them for you.

You can also pop the snakes and I was able to do it successfully with my definite male, but it's not always guaranteed, risky, and any wrong move or wrong pressure could injure the snake so probing may be safer.
