Female Care After Laying

hevychevy427 Jul 07, 2003 05:32 PM

I have a five year old Milksnake which I purchased in May...She must have been with a male because she laid 7 eggs today. This is new to me ..My first clutch.. What do I do to help her. She is still just laying there and has not laid anything since noon..it is now 6:30 The last egg was only 1/2 the size of the rest. When do I feed her ...she is sooo skinny. How Often to get her built up
Thanks

It's not unusual for them to take a day or two to finish laying. One of my Sinaloans just laid 16 eggs over a 3 day period. 14 are good, 2 were slugs.

They always look pretty bad after they finish laying. I usually wait until the next day to start feeding them and then I feed one mouse every other day for 10 days, then back to the normal feeding schedule.

Do you have your eggs in an incubator of some sort?

She has come out of her egg trance and is now cruising around and resting.. I could not see any lumps but will keep an eye on her.
The eggs are in a bed of vermiculite in an 82' room temp. with a thermometer that is keeping track of the temp also. I was told I will have to wait about 10 days to see if they are fertile or just eggs.
I will keep up with any new developments
Thank You

I just went through my first sand boa birth, and afterwards the female looked like a tire with the air let out. She hadn't eaten for 2 or 3 months, but she's pretty hungry now!

Hi I am back. The Female is eating great and has made a great rebound. She is actually round again after just two meals.
Thanks for all the helpful info.
