First to eat in 05' (the 'golden' corn)

BlueKing Feb 21, 2005 12:09 PM

She's doing great: This is a pic of my wild caught golden-blotched cornsnake from North Carolina, eating her first meal of 05' - a F/T adult mouse. Ironically she was the first to accept food out of all the adults that were brumated (she ate two mice!). I'm still waiting for the others to get an appetite. . .

Breeding season is upon us!!!

So, have you decided to what type of male you are going to try to breed her? Hope you get some really nice babies from her.

Thanks! Her mate will be a male that I collected within a quarter of a mile of her (see pics #1 or #2 above). There are two that i can choose from.

Golden Corns in the Wild? You sure Fort Bragg doesn't have any depleted uranium buried in the soil in that area Zee? I'd take that corn to the military public affairs dept. and show them the havoc they've unleashed on the wildlife of North Carolina.
Tell them your with PETA, or maybe A.L.F. and you have some Big Time Laaawyers and are interested in whats going on.
Anyway, on a serious note, that is an awesome find Zee. Just a stunning animal. Happy herping this summer.

Thanks Steve! Good to hear from you! By the way, I also found a totally red male eastern Garter within a few yards of her (two weeks later). Should have some good babies this year from her - she's eating like a hog already, LOL!

Please keep me in mind for some of those hatchlings, Zee! I'd be very interested in a 1.1 pair to see if that golden color were reproduceable on some scale.

All of your pics represent excellent finds, and that one female hit by the truck was a remarkable save to boot! Great job!

Thanks Darin! I will definetely keep you posted on the breeding (coming up soon) and hopefully lots of good eggs! I am also very pleased to have the opportunity of having saved the little one after her injuries from the vehicle.

I think I want in on 1.1 of those babies too. That is a magnificent animal and if it proves out, oooooh man...

Thanks - I'm hoping for the best and lots of babies. It just so happens that this corn snake is my best feeding corn out of the ten that I have. She never refuses a meal, so hopefully she'll have lots of eggs!
