Just a quick news bulletin for everyone. Mike Cole (Ballroom Pythons South) and I, have news for those interested in Uroplatus species.
All the hard to get species such as Alluadi, malahelo, guentheri, etc, maybe placed on Appendix 1 of CITIES within 3-4 months. This also goes for Corkbarks aka Spiny Uroplatus.
These are the things we are hearing from exporters, importers and friends in Madagascar.
This year there is a no ship status for Uroplatus henkeli, it is all at the discretion of the Forestry departments in Madagascar. Very few have been allowed to be exported.
Corkbarks may be listed as no ship even if they do not get placed on CITIES appendix 1.
The last big shipment came in on Febuary 18th.
By big I mean more than 20 animals of each species except corkbarks(they only get shipped in 2 and 3's.)
From this day forth the forestry is only allowing no more (and to their discretion) 10-20 of each species which include the following:
Phantasticus
Sikkorae
Lineatus
Fimbriatus
Ebenaui
Due to the limitations on the amount allowed imported, the exporters themselves have raised the price of all species except ebenaui. Thus the importers are paying more thus charging more. Alot of direct importers have or will raise their prices significantly. Thus UROPLATUS species commonly available, will be less available and more expensive.
