I have seen several different ads for black backs that look different. So what are the characteristics?

most of the black backs (or even brown)..that you see advertised are nothing more than a $3 ball with a little bit of extra black connecting patterns along the dorsal........IE: black striped backs .only most are less than 50% actual good patterned.....

the best black backs will actually be black and not brown and may or may not have blushings....better ones would not I would think....they would also have been proven to be genetic for at least 2 or 3 generations........

.......even some of the "GOOD" proven ones aren't really up to these standards......but people being people will actually love them and pay for them........

I have 1.2 here that are genetic.they throw and are from others like them.they fall into the 50% to 70% patterned ones.and NO not all babies or even half come out like the parent or grandparent............I am actually just using them for pastel and albinos to make more intresting stuff to keep and breed......

white backs are cool............

Ball pythons for $3.00 where I will take them all!!!!!! I have never seen baby ball pythons at $3.00. I would buy every one you can get that is $3.00. The cheapest I got them last year was 5-6.00. Black back, Brown back, they are all the same in my book. I had a female last year that was around 50% brown back and she produced around half of her clutch brown backs. Here is a good brown back.

I think most importers pay $2-$3 ea for normal balls from the exporters.

Several years ago and before you used to see ch advertised for $3 (at least in big lots). They have been a little higher the last few years. Someone said the first year of increase that it was the year of the snake and lots where going to China to make soup. I haven't heard any explanation since but have noticed that some have started buying up big lots and actually feeding them until the off season. Perhaps this has evened the price out and absorbs some of the seasonal glut that used to result in the ridiculously low prices right at import time. Anyone know if the supply is actually starting to dry up in Africa or is it just inflation and increased demand?

Thanks for the info Randy. I also remember when people in Florida were buying $3 Balls to feed their King cobras.

even importers arent paying 2-3 each on balls. Not even in a 10,000 lot.

They will get them at 3.00 at the end of the season when all thats left is crap.

at first when they are good, before their first shed importers are paying upwards of 5.00 each...

Why are they "crap" at the end of the season? People are "crap" not the snakes.

Not to argue, but because you cannot get them for $2-$3 does not mean others can't.

...800,000 plus a year and I bet over 700,000 die in the first year and less........

Ok... You are probably right.. The difference is I wont buy them when they get to 2 or 3$ each because they are in bad condition and soon to die.

The prices I stated were from 5 or so years ago, so they may have changed.

people get adult females for $3 each.......it's all who you know..........

Still I would like to see who is getting ADULT FEMALE balls for $3.00. The lowest I have seen is 9.00 each. And I now several Large IMPORTERS. The ONLY way you MIGHT see ANY ball python for $3.00 is to BE an IMPORTER yourself and them I Find it hard to believe that they are $3.00 EACH. Do you have PROOF of this or are you just GUESSING? yes.they were / are importers.........

yes.the one gets 20,000 a year.....

the other was a teenager with African connection for $3 adult females......

and NO>they are not worth the $3.wild balls suck...bigtime.....

........I'll stick with keeping my own babies and watching them grow and eat and breed while wild stuff sets in the cage and looks at the world going by for 2 years and not growing,breeding,or eating.....

anyways...........

....................by the way.the imported stuff was picked through at least 2 or 3 times till anyone else here sees it.......good stuff is not $3.it's picked out......

NICE albino.most are the same old blah yellow after while....

that one is sweet........I know someone who'd give you $2000 for it since it isn't a girl anymore.dang fickle snake......LOL

I think this female is so nice. I'm not even a big ball fan but she really does something for me. Also, she just had her POS shed yesterday. She was bred to a 100% het albino and is supposed to be a het herself but has no paperwork. So aside from hatching out my first ball clutch ever, I also have finding out if she's truly a het or not to look forward. I'm a little excited to say the least.
